The chainsaw has been hung up for good.
Bruce Campbell has officially confirmed he’s hanging up his chainsaw hand for good, announcing he will no longer play Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise.
The 68-year-old actor, who originated the iconic horror role in Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic, cited both physical limitations and shifting personal interests as primary reasons for his departure.

“I tapped out after Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Campbell wrote on X, clarifying that his decision wasn’t news but a long-standing reality. “I didn’t want Ash to be compromised by declining skills and as a borderline Geezer, my interests have diverged.”
Despite stepping away from the character, Campbell remains creatively involved, executive producing recent installments Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn, and the forthcoming Evil Dead Wrath.
The horror legend assured fans his love for the franchise remains undying, even as he passes the torch to new storytellers.
