The missing four-year-old, Cleo Smith, was found and a man is in custody after police broke into a house at 1 am.
Cleo Smith, who went missing from a campsite in Western Australia more than two weeks ago, has been found alive and well.
At 1 am this morning, a police team broke into a locked house in Carnarvon, about 70kms away from where Cleo first went missing.
In a statement to the press, police said “They found little Cleo in one of those rooms. One of the officers picked her up into his arms and asked her ‘What’s your name?’ She said, ‘My name is Cleo’”
The man in custody is currently being questioned by detectives.
For the first time since October 16, Cleo has been reunited with her parents.
Her mother, Ellie Smith, was the last person to see the four-year-old before she vanished from the Blowholes campsite near Carnarvon. She recalled being woken up by her daughter asking for water at around 1.30 am but in the morning, Cleo and her sleeping bag had disappeared from the family tent.
The truly mortifying experience for her family, which was only worsened with brutal accusations online, has now finally come to an end.
“This is the outcome we all hoped and prayed for,” Deputy Commissioner Col Branch said.
Australian leaders have expressed their joy and relief at the news.
What wonderful, relieving news.
Cleo Smith has been found and is home safe and sound.
Our prayers answered.
Thank you to the many police officers involved in finding Cleo and supporting her family.
