Former CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime has announced the formation of Dreamhaven, filled with ex-Blizzard talent.
It’s not every day that the launch of a new game company causes a stir, especially when there’s no word on any new titles it will be producing. However, given the proud working lineage boasted by much of the leading talent, Dreamhaven deserves a bit of buzz.
Ex-Blizzard boss man Mike Morhaime is heading the new developer-publisher, which will be overseeing child studios Moonshot Games and Secret Door.
Moonshot Games is being headed up by some big names, including Jason Chayes, Dustin Browder, and Ben Thompson, who have been heavily involved in the creation of titles such as Hearthstone, Starcraft 2, and Heroes of the Storm.
Secret Door, for its part, lists Chris Sigaty, Alan Dabiri, and Eric Dodds as its leading talent, whose claims to fame also include participating in the development of old Blizzard favourites Starcraft and Warcraft III.
Blizzard has certainly bled a lot of skilled, inspired employees over time – many of whom were responsible for creating the titles that earned the company the esteem that it has enjoyed for decades. Now, it seems a few of these creators have found a home with Dreamhaven.
Morhaime reports that, for now, the company is focusing developing itself before it begins work on its first original titles. With some time and a little luck, we can hope that these new studios will be able to recapture some of the magic that went into crafting those early Blizzard favourites.
