Grimes and Elon Musk have updated their baby’s name

Grimes has revealed via her Instagram account that she and Elon Musk have decided to change their baby X Æ A-12’s name to X Æ A-Xii.

Though the switch may not seem very different at a glance, the former was denied by the state of California for failing to comply with the law, which stipulates that names are limited to the 26-character English alphabet.

Grimes and Elon Musk have renamed their baby X Æ A-Xii to comply with requirements set out in Californian law.

When asked about the change from using numbers (12) to Roman numerals (Xii) Grimes was very brief and did not confirm that compliance with the law motivated the change, commenting “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh”.

The switch has not changed the pronunciation of the obscure name, which has been a matter of contention for the couple from the start.

In responding to a query about the name, Grimes wrote on her Instagram that “It’s just X, like the letter X. Then AI. Like how you said the letter A then I”. It seems that Musk had not been given the memo. As a guest on the Joe Rogan podcast, Musk stated “I mean it’s just X, the letter X. And then, the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘Ash’”.

While the pronunciation of the name remains unclear, it appears the ambiguity surrounding its lawfulness has been cleared up for now.
