The new EP is the first EP-length collaboration between Aotearoa hip-hop group MOKOMOKAI and Troy Kingi, bringing together two distinct voices from the country’s contemporary music scene.

The result is a record built from cinematic boom-bap production, stream-of-consciousness rhymes, singalong choruses, punchlines and bluesy, psychedelic soul instrumentation.
MOKOMOKAI have had a pretty serious year already, taking home Best Hip-Hop Artist at the Aotearoa Music Awards 2026.
Now they’ve brought the new collaboration across the ditch to BIGSOUND.
The EP arrived on August 28, making this a particularly timely conversation. Rather than simply talking about the record from a distance, we got to sit down with the people who made it and hear a little more about what went into putting it together.
That includes working with Troy Kingi, what happens when two established artists meet in the middle, and what it means to take Aotearoa hip-hop to a new audience.
We talked with MOKOMOKAI about the new EP, the collaboration and what’s next.
Mostly, though, we just wanted to thank them for keeping it real.
