Happy’s Best New Music

Updated weekly by the fine folk at Happy Mag, this is the absolute best new music that this week has to offer from Australia and around the world!

Parcels Free

The five-piece band from Byron Bay take the world by storm with Free, a bright, yet melancholic take on euphoria. Keeping true to the band’s signature use of vocal harmonies and percussive progression, Free is a testament to the ability to place feeling into sound – plus the cowbell… wow.

Diana Ross – Thank You

Music veteran and all-round disco-dance icon is back and better than ever with Thank You – a track that takes the message of unified acceptance, and drenches it in Ross-ian goodness. The lead single from Ross’ upcoming album (and the first she’s released in 15 years), Thank You is just as much a catchy earworm, as it is a corny, campy work of art.

Rebecca Black – Rebecca Black Was Here

It goes without saying that Rebecca Black may be one of the most interesting artists of her generation – the person who started as a meme, and now makes meme-ish music. Rebecca Black Was Here takes hyperpop queerness, and flips it on its head amid Black’s beautifully raw vocals. While the album’s throbbing 808’s make it a sometimes food, it’s one you can happily keep coming back to.

Tim Ayre – Modern Life

Taking influence from the likes of the Beatles, Daft Punk and Stevie wonder, Ayre is renowned for creating sunkissed dream-pop that oozes nostalgia, and looks to the future. Crafted and stitched together in his bedroom and the studio, Modern Life builds upon the decadent psychedelic dreaminess of his previous work, but refines it into a razor-sharp sonic pallet.

Gang of Youths – the angel of 8th avenue

The first taster from their upcoming third album, recorded and produced at the band’s home in Hackney, the angel of 8th avenue stands as a testament to Gang of Youths’ ability to weave storytelling into their ever-evolving sonic landscapes. What could initially be deceived as a simple story about love, ends up as a rapturing tale for the ages.
