Introducing: Sable

You know what they say: the west is best. And Sable is certainly proving this. On the forefront of the rising musical reputation of our west coast neighbors, Perthian John Dewhurst, goes by the name Sable, producing sub-bass lines, synths and hip-hop trap. It’s the kind of music that will surely get your buns moving or head bopping with contagious synth hooks and on-point drumbeats.

Sable

Bass and trap fans already know his name. For the sorry folks who don’t, you soon will find yourself grooving to Sable’s electro jams.

Dewhurst grew up with music, starting with household instruments (that your parents sometimes force you to play while in high school such as piano): bass and guitar, being a singer-songwriter in his past, so he’s always been a musical dude. After graduating with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, or what I like to call the Bachelor of Calculator, like a lot of graduates Dewhurst found there were actually no jobs in the job promise land.

With Dewhurst’s obsession of Pokémon, (you might be lucky enough to score a too-cool-for-school limited edition Sable card) and Jamiroquai bass lines, this fun quirky guy (thankfully for us) decided to pursue music instead. From uploading tracks to Triple J Unearthed, to getting signed to indie label Pilerats and winning Unearthed’s Listen Out competition, this string of success seems like just the start for Sable. Take it from Nina Las Vegas who thinks “We should play this on the radio”. Agreed Nina. Agreed.

The first vibes I got when listening to his music for the first time was people like Wave Racer, Sweater Beats, a hint of Burial. You could say EDM, bass, trap, hip-hop, general loudness and clubhouse music. Listen to his fairly recent track Mt Moon that has some hard hitting drops and bangs. I particular like his track Thunder Wave. It’s contagious electronica chimes, hooks, lines, vocal samples, mixed with bass and beats just make you feel plain happy. Next time you’re planning some rager at your house, put on Sable’s EP and you’ve instantly got a party.
