Jamie Lee Curtis has been openly supportive of her daughter Ruby’s transgender journey and says she is “a grateful student”.
Curtis first revealed the information in the cover story of the August/September issue of AARP’s magazine.
Within the story, the 62-year-old actress opened up about her 25-year-old child’s journey to become a transgender woman.
At the time of the revelation Ruby’s parents, Curtis and Christopher Guest, watched with “wonder and pride” as she made the transition.
People magazine spoke recently with the Halloween actress, who claims she is still learning.
“It’s speaking a new language. It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it…If one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ then it’s worth it.”
When speaking with people magazine Ruby revealed that by the age of 16 she knew she wasn’t the same as everyone else. However, she held back from coming out until telling her fiancé years later that she was “probably trans”.

The biggest adjustment for the Curtis clan was referring to their transgender daughter as ‘Ruby’ rather than her given birth name.
“And so, of course, at first that was the challenge, then the pronoun. My husband and I still slip occasionally.”
Ruby doesn’t get upset with her parents’ mistakes but rather accepts that they are still learning and trying their best.
The relationship between parent and child has established a new and exciting dynamic in this instance.
Curtis has said, “I’m a grateful student. I’m learning so much from Ruby. The conversation is ongoing.”
Y’all remember when Jamie Lee Curtis got her daughter’s permission to talk about her transition in a magazine for old people so that she could encourage people to be as proud and supportive of their trans kids as she is?
