Jengyz shares a list of 5 Aussie artists he’s digging right now

The Australian music scene is looking pretty bloody impressive right now. Each state is brimming with brilliant and diverse musical acts, and honestly, sifting through it all can get a little difficult. So we asked one of our favourite emerging Aussie artists, Jengyz, to list 5 of his favourite Aussie acts.

With a new single under his belt, we caught up with Western Australian artist Jengyz for a list of five Aussie artists he’s digging right now.

Ocean Alley

Psychedelic tones mixed with reggae vibes, Ocean Alley have become a staple in Australia’s indie-rock scene. Their most popular song Confidence is simplistic yet complex, with soaring vocals and a guitar tone that is hard to forget.

Julia Jacklin

Julia Jacklin’s sombre vocals, combined with her songwriting skills, create quite a melancholic vibe. This is evident in her songs Motherland and Head Alone. A sound one can only describe as indie-folk, she recently featured at triple j’s annual concert One Night Stand late last year to a warm reception.

Kwame

Solidifying himself in the Australian hip-hop scene, Kwame became one of the most played artists on triple j unearthed in 2017. He featured on triple j’s Like A Version late last year with his single WOW and a cover of Kendrick Lamar’s Alright, prompting many people to call him ‘The Aussie Kendrick Lamar’.

Imogen Clark

Imogen Clark began her journey at the folk genre, drawing inspiration from Josh Pyke, to Americana more recently. Imogen’s writing lyrically and musically is well beyond her years, which is evident in her most recent single Collide. Her music is incredibly moving and her sincerity makes her an artist to watch.

Matt Corby

Matt Corby also began his career with folk-like vibes, but in recent years has experimented with psychedelic sounds; ranging from blues to soul and jazz – he has turned into an Australian favourite. He plays a range of instruments and he also brings a mass amount of energy to the stage live as well. Songs such as Brother and Resolution both won Song Of The Year at the Aria Music Awards in 2011 and 2013 respectively, while his debut album Telluric reached number one on the ARIA album charts.
