If you haven’t already listened to Kong Fooey’s new album Feel The Love, stop what you’re doing, and go listen to it right now. The record is a collection of groove-laden, infectious electro gems, and we haven’t stopped listening ever since we first laid ears on it.
So fresh off the album’s release, we caught up with the man himself for a complete run-down of each incredible track.
With an epic new album fresh under his belt, we caught up with Kong Fooey for a track-by-track run-down of Feel The Love.
Emerald Green
A smooth jazzy old school house number with a kicking groove, one of the last tracks I wrote this year and one of my fiancée’s favourites.
Feel Your Soul (feat. David Haslett)
The first track on the album to feature the very talented David Haslett on vocal duties and guitar, a modern funk soul number with electronic undertones and a funky house groove, this one is great to dance too when we play live.
Just For The Night
My crack at writing a slick RnB club track, it features a great hook JFTN is a simple track that has a sweet groove with a vintage funk break thrown in as a tribute to the vibe on my last album.
Good Vibrations Everywhere (feat. David Haslett)
An upbeat summer tune featuring Dave again on vocals. Dave came up with a killer chorus hook to this song that we co-wrote the lyrics on the verses. A positive tune about living your life to the fullest and spreading the good vibes everywhere.
Feel The Love
The disco-funk is burning hot on this album title, features a cool sample by Alan Watts and goes into tribal drum overload towards the end, this track also has 90s house undertones going on. I found my soul mate a few years ago who is now my fiancee and we are getting married later on this year, it’s a beautiful thing when you find true love and that’s the general theme of this album.
Believe Me
I wanted to write a heavy club house track with disco vocals and I think I nailed it with this tune, maximum danceability… this one is going to be fun to play live!
From The Inside
A chilled track inspired by Morcheeba who I’m a fan of, especially their album Big Calm, this track features luscious vocals, tripped out beats and smooth bass lines, perfect with a delicious vino while you’re chilling out later in the evening.
I’ve Been Thinking About You
This track was the very last track written for the album, it uses a beat I ripped from another track I wrote that was going to be on the album but just wasn’t working. I love the catchy piano hook and vocal synths used on this song, one of my favourite tunes on the album.
Giving Up On Love
This tune features a trap beat in the verses with disco/soul vocals that blends into a funky upbeat house groove in the chorus, I love the heavy moody piano line that underpins the track, this track came together really quickly which is always a good sign that it works.
Love Designed (feat. Topaz & David Haslett)
Released as a single last year, it features MC Topaz in the verses and David Haslett on chorus duties. This one has a funk techno 80’s vibe, we’ve had it in our live set for a while now and it always goes off on the dance floor.
Taking Off
A fusion of house, trip-hop and electronica. This song is about overcoming your fears by using the power of now to get you out of any anxiety. For me it was a fear of flying, rather than view flying as a terrible experience, I now try to be in the moment and enjoy the incredible views up there.
Feel The Love is available now. Listen above.
