Lorde of the onion rings: Pop sensation revives cult Instagram account

Lorde has posted another review from her Instagram account, @onionringswordlwide, which literally contains nothing but reviews of onion rings.

Yesterday, Lorde fans everywhere were surprised with a real treat. For the first time since December last year, the New Zealand singer posted another review from her famous Instagram account, @onionringswordlwide, which literally contains nothing but reviews of onion rings from around the world.

According to the singer, the account started as a joke way back in 2017 while on tour with a group of friends. However, soon after a 2017 press leak revealing that it was in fact her behind the account, Lorde – real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor – mysteriously withdrew from posting.

The singer is also notoriously mute on Instagram otherwise, as her official account is a barren wasteland, untouched since 2018.

However, things seem to be really turning around as yesterday’s review comes through as one of her best yet.

“Yoosh lads back with another ring post. These were from the Hotel Ponsonby establishment, we’re talking PICKLED onion rings which is a first for this reviewer. I totally vibe the concept— used to eat pickled onions out of the jar as a youngster— however I think if you’re gonna go there, go there, and let acidity rather than sweetness dominate.”

Despite the fair criticism, Lorde signed off with a strong 4 out of 5 for the onion rings.

“Absolutely sensational batter, perhaps the best I’ve tried. 4/5 overall ringsperience.”

It seems to be the only activity we’ve seen from Lorde in the last few months, which may suggest that her much anticipated third album – and the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama – is well on its way.

Last year, the pop star announced her upcoming debut photo book, Going South, based on a trip to Antarctica she took in 2019. The title of her third album is also inspired by the voyage. “The work is so fucking good, my friend,” she told fans. “I am truly jazzed for you to hear it.”

While no release date has been revealed just yet, the recent Instagram activity does coincide with the opening of the travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps we’ll get a tour from her soon, too.
