Halley’s Comet enters the Happy Mag stratosphere with their newest single. The track is a jazzy-bop that transforms into a witchy rock fusion with high scaled electric lead guitars, rough chords and interjections of Lo-fi vocals; just to name a few.
Brodie – ‘Points’
The latest track from the idiosyncratic pop Australian explores the process of songwriting and the creative fulfilment gained from past tracks like ‘Blue’. The writing is very introspective and the sonics are very pleasant with a light trappy beat and digital-web coded synths.
Baden – ‘let me down’
This jazz house single is a very breezy and groovy number. Funky bass, fluffy suave vocal production, sparkly keys, bongos, and even a trumpet to mix things up in the second half. What more could you ask for?
Quiet Neighbours – ‘b.a.n.g.e.r.’
From Thornbury, Victoria, comes a punky and heavy cacophony of fuzzy guitars, crashing drums and guttural yellings. The track even suddenly throws the listener into a dreamy indie reprieve, before climbing back up to peaks of the first half.
Overhand Sam – ‘Pass Me By’
Overhand Sam leads you into a forest of pop psychedelia, with high pitched lofi vocals, witchy chimes and hazy guitars. If you take a liking to this tune, there’s more to be found on the incredible album, Fear of Death/Death of Fear.
Oddysseys – ‘There’s Hope’
The final track from new-wavey band’s newest album, However You Want It, throws you into a complete fog. It opens with delayed, dark guitar tones and spatial drums before drony vocals join in and the intensity slowly builds.
Arny – ‘HUSTLA MUSIK’
Arny’s newest banger is a certified bass disrupter and experimental hip-hop delight. As the bass tries to crush your head and the trap horns back the mix, spacey ray gun noises zap the beat into the cosmos.
Marc Robillard – ‘Cut The Brakes’
The Canadian singer songwriter commands the listener to drive full force into life without any fear or control. It’s a fun and lighthearted country that appeals to any one who wants to embrace a fearless nature.
Spring Palace – ‘Go For The Gold’
Texas-based indie rockers Spring Palace, present an energetically infectious tune that mixes a concoction of post-punk vocals, classical pianos and hazy guitars. It’s one for the books.
The Melody Chamber – ‘Memories Of Fall’
The intro to the group’s self-titled debut, is a pleasant jangle-pop ride mixed with the post-punk and new wave sounds that dominated the 80s. That world is brought back to present on the whole record, which is worth a listen.
MTTM – ‘The Flow’
This track from the new-wave revivalists, captures an almost gothic pop pocket of sound that has been rarely seen in the current day. The band picked this as their first single for The Diver, because it captures the whole tone of the album. I couldn’t agree more.
