‘Watch Me Go’ opens a new chapter for Odette.
Sydney gem Odette today announced the release date of her third album, Blink, as well as its lead single ‘Watch Me Go’. Blink is Odette’s first independent album, released via Beloved Records.
Following the album’s release on November 6, Odette will set off on the headliner Australian tour for the album – beginning in Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and ending at the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane.
The album will be a reflective confessional, with a unique baroque pop and jazz-rnb hybrid sound. In the heartfelt announcement via Instagram, Odette wrote “This album restored a lot for me and I hope you hear that. I hope this record brings you something.”.
‘Watch Me Go’ is the first single from the album, and the older sister to her early single ‘Watch Me Read You’. The core theme is shared, but ‘Watch Me Go’ brings a new perspective and the gift of hindsight that the 2017 track was missing.
Odette describes the track as a reflection on her first lesbian heartbreak, as well as the lingering grief of other relationships and friendships that fell apart during more difficult periods of her life.
The single combines spoken-word poetic cadence on the verses with hauntingly beautiful vocals on the chorus, creating a tender, vulnerable piece of music tied together perfectly with piano balladry.
It’s safe to say that some healing tears are definitely going to be shed in the crowd this November.
The album was produced by Kiah Gossner, who won ‘Best Producer and Audio Engineer’ at the 2021 South Australian Music Awards.
Both of Odette’s previous national tours have sold out, with the Sydney Morning Herald hailing the performances as “uninhibited joy: infectious and empowering”.
