Not to be confused with a rare Jutsu Woodlock offer us pure and breezy folk from the heart

In a similar twist of fate to that of Sydney’s folk duo Winterbourne, Woodlock got their start busking on street corners in Melbourne’s CBD. Consisting of Kiwi born brothers Ezekial and Zechariah Walters on guitar / vox and Bowen Purcell on percussion, the group have acquired quite a dedicated fan base through their trademark high pitched vocals, light harmonies and acoustic strumming creating a soul invading, earthy folk aura – an aura that is eerily alike those Bon Iver or Patrick Watson conjure up and inflict us with.

Woodlock Labour of Love

With melodies more pure than a Tasmanian river and a maturing sound, folk rock trio Woodlock are at their stunning best on new single Sirens.

Although currently unsigned, these fine fellas have released two independent EPs Lemons in 2013, and most recently, 2014’s Labour of Love. Their latest EP even reached the top 100 of the ARIA charts and saw the band embark on a nationwide tour. With plans to release their third record Sirens later this year, they’ve released the EP’s first single of the same name, and by the sounds of things, this record will be yet another step up for the evocative, folk rock threesome.

Sirens echoes intently through the body, it is a 3 minute and 55 second track that engulfs the mind with soft, purified harmonies, rhythmic claps, organic, seemingly rolling strums, and an intense flow of percussion that pumps right through the veins. It’s as clear as the country air that the boys have matured musically, as Sirens is not only evidence of their growth and progression, but of their urge to go deeper, and allow listeners to fall further into their world of folky delights.

The single was recorded with Wayne Connolly, the man responsible for helping sculpt their digestible sound, that’s equally as raw and impressive on record, as it is live. Having worked with Connolly, on all three of their studio EP’s, and delivering something more impressively intricate each time, there’s no doubt that through Sirens these talented songbirds will provide, at the least, a collection of road trip worthy tracks for the twenty somethings of the world to enjoy right down to their core.
