It’s officially the end of an era. The man with nine lives, Keith Richards, has finally given up smoking.

At 76, Keith Richards has finally opted to do some self-care, announcing that he’s officially kicked tobacco, and is “just getting going”.

In a recent interview with Q104.3, Richards opened up on the subject, revealing he hadn’t smoked a cigarette since last October.

“I think both Mick [Jagger] and I felt that on the last tour we were just getting going,” he explained. “[We]’ve got to continue this.”

Richards is infamous for living life to the extreme and has struggled with life-long addictions with alcohol and drugs, including heroin. At the end of 2018, the musician announced that he was cutting back on drinking.

Richards first revealed his plans to quit smoking a year ago in an interview with Mojo Magazine. However, he admitted that he found cigarettes even harder to quit than heroin.

“Quitting heroin is like hell, but it’s a short hell,” described Richards. “Cigarettes are just always there, and you’ve always done it. I just pick ’em up and light ’em up without thinking about it.”

For most people, it’s a surprise that the iconic musician is still alive. Yet lucky for us, it seems he has no plans of slowing down any time soon. The band are set to embark on a massive North American stadium tour this coming May.
