Play School welcomes new cast member, an Indigenous doll named Kiya

Beloved children’s TV program Play School will be welcoming a new friend to the show, an Indigenous doll named Kiya, as part of a special Welcome To Country episode for NAIDOC Week.

Held annually across the country in July, NAIDOC week celebrates the many achievements, rich culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Play School will be welcoming a brand new cast member next month in honour of NAIDOC week, an Indigenous doll named Kiya.

Actress and Play School presenter, Miranda Tapsell shared a picture with the newest cast member on Instagram over the weekend.

“How moorditj (good) is Kiya? She’s one of our new Playschool friends all the way from Nyoongar country in Perth. She can be your friend too!”

“Kiya also means hello in Nyoongar language. I can’t wait for you all to meet her on the 8th of July for our very special Welcome to Country episode for NAIDOC week with the wonderful Luke Carroll and Hunter Page-Lochard.”

The episode will air on the 8th of July on ABC Me and will celebrate Indigenous language and culture.
