PREMIERE: Matt Druery channels 80s synth-pop on his debut single There 4 U

Matt Druery’s debut single There 4 U is a catchy tune incorporating an 80s synth feel, emotional lyrics and killer melody lines that will get you tapping your foot from the get-go.

Hailing from Sydney, the 20-year-old multi-instrumentalist is keen to kick-start his solo musical career, previously playing guitar, bass and keyboard in several bands and groups over the years.

Sydney musician Matt Druery explores a retro 80s sound with new tune There 4 U; a deeply infectious bop oozing character and sophistication.

The inspiration for the song came from a feeling of unrequited feelings and the ‘sliding doors’ of life, as others are at different life stages to us. Matt said:

“I’m sure most people have been through the feelings of hopelessness and loneliness when they have strong feelings towards someone and that person is on a completely different path. It happens! I hope that the universality of those feelings and this story relate to people who listen to this song and can offer a bit of a lighter outlook on it.”

Born into a musical family with his father a session drummer, Druery picked up a pair of sticks as a baby and wrote his first song at age eleven, affirming his love for music and writing from a young age. With strong musical influences such as Prince, Elvis Costello, Todd Rundgren and Eagles, his love for old-school rock shines through There 4 U brilliantly.

The song begins with a spacy vocoder riff, eventually progressing into melodic guitar riffs and grooves with an underlying kinetic drum beat. Towards the end of the song, the layers build into a magnificent unmistakeable synthesised rock sound.
