PREMIERE: Muddy Wolfe’s debut EP is a collection of jazz-laden blues-rock gems

Hey there, we’d like you to meet Canberra-based blues band Muddy Wolfe! The band have just released their debut EP; a five track collection of jazz-laden blues magic.

Canberra based blues group Muddy Wolfe will take you on a ride through love, loneliness and working too hard with their debut EP.

Muddy Wolfe have been active and integral members of the Canberra blues scene and the Canberra Blues Society for the past number of months now. Their debut EP is the story of a crowdfunding success and a fully self-produced record.

There is a seemingly infinite amount of influences floating around this record, which is likely a result of the diversity of the members in the group. The members of Muddy Wolfe have been brought together from all walks of life, called by the powers of jazz and blues.

Opening track, The Sun Also Rises, is a really strong start. The intro is completely captivating and alludes to a really catchy chorus. This one is a really nice blues tune with some neat things going on in the drums. Hide Away definitely has more of a country feel and is a nice moment of variation in the collection. The harmonies in this track elevate it to another place entirely.

Lonely But Not Alone is back to a more soulful bluesy feeling, and the old-school organ really sets the scene. To tie it all back in to the rest of the record, there’s also a crunching blues guitar solo. This track really is an exhibition of the musicianship of all the band members.

Moving on, we get a little breathing space in the intro of Life of a Working Man, before it surprises us with a new lead vocalist with her own gorgeous rich, sultry voice. The finale Lovers is a really lovely bluesy country tune. The first verse generates a really nice little moment of variety again before unfurling into a groovy way to finish up the record.

The variety through this EP is vast, which ensures the listener is engaged and rewarded the whole way through. Can’t wait to hear more from these guys!

For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new EP above.
