With a string of albums and singles under his belt, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Skyscraper Stan (real name Stan Woodhouse) has spent the past number of years touring extensively around the country, building a sound for himself that feels simultaneously raw and explorative. Although his music is grounded in troubadour rock n’ roll, it reaches far further.
Stan’s latest single, On Your Corner, is a perfect showcase of his vast sounds. Now, with a new music video to accompany, Skyscraper Stan further builds himself as one of our favourite contemporary Aussie songwriters.
On his new video for On Your Corner, Melbourne-based troubadour Skyscraper Stan delivers a sprawling slice of gospel-rock brilliance.
Set in a dark, B-grade karaoke bar, the new video begins with Stan standing up before a seemingly uninterested crowd for a performance of On Your Corner. As the song builds, so too does the bar’s atmosphere. As the track hits its first chorus, Stan trades his unassuming black t-shirt for an immaculate tan suit, and from here, the video perfectly captures the track’s expansive, gospelic sounds.
The clip closes with Stan returning to his seat in his regular garb, though by the time the clip reaches the conclusion of its near-seven-minute duration, you’ll have been completely roped into Skyscraper Stan’s epic sounds, and filmmaker Isaebella Doherty’s epic visuals.
On Your Corner is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from Skyscraper Stan, and judging by everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great material in the near future.
