PREMIERE: Whitney Tai unveils her hauntingly beautiful new mini-EP

Based out of Los Angeles, California, Whitney Tai crafts haunting and beautiful slices of dream-pop. Her music is at once striking and delicate – like treading on ice, her songs could shatter beneath your feet at any moment. This peaceful sense of unease is perhaps the most captivating quality of her music.

Entering into one of her boundless soundscapes is a listening experience unlike any other. It’s all-consuming. So, today we’re stoked to be premiering her new ‘Mini-EP’, Flowers By The Roadside/Silent Night.

With the release of two new singles, Flowers By The Roadside and Silent Night, Whitney Tai has crafted something captivatingly haunting.

For the two new tracks, Tai has teamed with LA-based composer and classical guitarist, Michael Trainor. The two artists weave their unique sounds together to craft something completely hypnotic, and undeniably unique.

Produced by Tim Janssens, Flowers By The Roadside is a ghostly lullaby that will float around your head, never really landing in once space. By the time the track reaches the conclusion of its near four-minute duration, you’ll be left with a wonderful feeling of disorientation.

If you purchase the new track on Bandcamp, you’ll also be treated to a special recording of Silent Night. Similarly to Flowers By The Roadside, Silent Night is a dreamy and disorientating slice of hypnotic folk-pop. In addition to this bonus gift track, Bandcamp supporters will also be gifted with some extra little presents.

Our unique and haunting interpretation of Silent Night is a reflection of the political and cultural challenges facing the world,” Tai says.

By omitting the word peace in the final line of the lyrics, we allow the listener to reimagine and determine their own conclusion. Our wish is that they find not only both comfort and hope, but to inspire the individual into action.

This new mini-EP is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from Whitney Tai, and judging by what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what she delivers next.
