Back in late 2012, Australian singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko released her fourth studio album I Awake to critical acclaim. Blasko’s latest is not afraid to be on the front lines, she has thrown herself into the fray and emerged triumphant. There is a grit and a reality that can’t be manufactured and that resonates with each listener in it’s own way.
Sarah Blasko is one of the greats – her hauntingly bluesy voice riddled with pain and angst easily fills up an auditorium, leaving you in astonishment.
Just prior to it’s official release, Faster Louder reviewed I Awake; the whole review was one big metaphor of trench warfare and it fits like a second skin.
“The failures and the will to survive are realised in every note.” – Faster Louder
She didn’t leave her fighting spirit behind for the live shows either, touring every Australian state capital with a 40 piece orchestra to ensure that the atmosphere was grand and almost overwhelming. The film streamed live on YouTube to just under 100,000 viewers and the show itself was packed with excited fans.
Blasko is definitely an act to see at this year’s Splendour in the Grass.
