After the recent overturning of abortion rights in the US, The Satanic Temple is trying to find a way to push back on the national ban.
Last Friday the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and therefore abolished the constitutional right to abortion on a federal level.
Since the ruling, many states with a conservative majority have banned or heavily restricted abortion laws and many Republicans are pushing for a national ban on abortions.
It goes without saying the internet has been flooded with those grieving the loss of bodily autonomy in the US and so many sharing messages of support for the country.
Former President Barack Obama referred to the overturning as an attack on “the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.”
Now, The Satanic Temple (TST) which is known for its progressive politics and awesome ability to take people, corporations and government to court has opened up about their plans to deal with the ruling.
The Temple has started a legal battle for the right to have an abortion, stating that the Supreme Court ruling violates religious freedom.
The non-theist group are one of many religions that allow abortion so the argument to be had is that banning access goes against their right to religious freedom.
Beyond allowing abortion, the Satan worshippers have gone one step further and claimed the church practices a “religious abortion ritual” that would be threatened by the Supreme Court ruling.
TST confirmed their stance on the matter with a Tweet on June 25, saying: “The Satanic Temple is the leading beacon of light in the battle for abortion access. With Roe v Wade overturned, a religious exemption will be the only available challenge to many restrictions to access.”

The tweet then redirects readers to an announcement on their website that allows readers to donate to “operations that develop and promote campaigns such as religious reproductive rights, and for legal expenses that protect civil liberties.”
The announcement also goes on to explain what a satanic abortion ritual is, the hopeful loophole in the system.
“The Satanic abortion ritual provides spiritual comfort and affirms bodily autonomy, self-worth, and freedom from coercive forces with the affirmation of TST’s Seven Tenets,” TST explained.
“The ritual is not intended to convince a person to have an abortion. Instead, it sanctifies the abortion process by instilling confidence and protecting bodily rights when undergoing the safe and scientific procedure.”
It sounds like The Satanic Temple may be offering some options to those who are otherwise feeling completely hopeless.
