Soniccouture bring some serious modular heritage straight to your DAW
Soniccouture have expanded their Polarity series with Polarity Modular, a virtual instrument built around granular synthesis and the character of modular sound sources.
Rather than aiming to behave like a traditional synth, it leans into slow movement, evolving tone and the kind of open ended exploration that suits sound design as much as composition.
At the centre of the instrument are two granular layers that work alongside each other, allowing sounds to drift, overlap and reshape over time.
The engine encourages gentle motion rather than sharp gestures, which makes it easy to settle into longer sessions where ideas unfold gradually instead of arriving fully formed.
A big part of the instrument’s character comes from its source material.
The waveforms are drawn from real modular systems, including classic Buchla and Serge setups, along with other vintage modular voices.
Those recordings retain their natural irregularities, which gives the granular engine something expressive to work with once the layers begin to move and interact.
Polarity Modular keeps the experience inviting rather than technical. You can guide how the grains behave, how wide they feel and how much space they occupy, but the instrument never pushes you toward a single outcome.
It is just as comfortable sitting quietly under a track as it is becoming the main focus of a piece.
There is also the option to bring in your own sounds, which opens the door to blending personal material with the same granular structure.
That flexibility helps the instrument feel like part of a wider setup rather than a closed environment.
Polarity Modular suits slower writing, ambient work and moments where you want to follow sound rather than control it tightly.
It feels designed for listening as much as shaping ideas that change over time. Experience it for yourself here.
