Straya, where we catch tiger snakes in mouse traps

What do you like to do when you come home from work? Cook dinner, watch TV, and a long bath may come to mind. Catching a dangerous snake however may be the last thing you’d expect to do. Such was the case for a Western Australian man who received a little more than a fright when he stumbled upon a tiger snake caught in a mouse trap upon arriving home from work.

tiger snake in mouse trap

Anthony Parker, from the town of Cascade, had returned home after work last night, and after going about his business as normal was greeted by a tiger snake flailing after getting caught in the trap. “I came home from work at about 5pm, had a coffee and had a look at a few things on the internet and as I was sitting there I just heard the mouse-trap go snap” he said.

I turned around, had a quick look and literally jumped off my stool because there was a snake about three metres away from me in the mouse-trap. It was just trying to escape by trying to bite the trap off I think; I think it may have thought the trap was alive trying to get it.

Mr Parker’s missus felt their home had been mice, and as a responsible adult would do set some traps for those little critters while the family went out over the weekend. Mr Parker believes the mice are what attracted the snake in the first place. After filming the snake to prove to his family this crazy incident actually happened, Mr Parker decided to put the little guy our its misery since it was in a bad way.

I felt a bit sorry for it in a funny sort of way; I didn’t want it in the house, but I don’t kill snakes unless they are around the house because we have a little boy.”
