With influences spanning across decades and genre, Mindless Crowd adopt a sparkling energy with new single Star Chaser.
Ambling, languorous and hypnotizing, the Swiss quartet calmly levitate, enticing listeners to join them in their own dazzling stratosphere.
Immediately reminiscent of Interpol, Star Chaser leads with a deep and mesmerizing vocal. Captivating, though less abrasive than the likes of Ian Curtis, Mindless Crowd instantly conjures a sense of comfortability.
As if Star Chaser is less of an intentionally created song, and more of an unnameable, uncontainable expression of feeling. Thrumming bass and drums lay the foundation for twinkling rhythm and lead guitars to pirouette and ascend their way across.
There is something exotic about Star Chaser, and something so satisfying in the way it builds inconspicuously toward an unsuspecting climax.
By the time the moment is over, it feels as though there has been an agreement made to follow Mindless Crowd wherever to float to next.
With an intention to address themes of loneliness and fear through a lens of hope and fantasy, Mindless Crowd succeeds in every angle of their mission statement.
Star Chaser is a vehicle of transportation; either to another place and time, or a new state of being. A manipulation of light and dark, Star Chaser burns brightly amongst corners of darkness.
The ending feels like a beginning and vice versa, an infinite time loop in which listeners can exist. Leaning more into entrancing psychedelia than with previous releases, Mindless Crowd has apparently found their stride with Star Chaser.
With previous tracks like Bird in Cage and Out of Sight offering a soundtrack quality, Star Chaser sounds like something to be found in an ominous scene of award winning series Killing Eve.
Evocative, emotionally stirring and undoubtedly scene-setting, Mindless Crowd continue to evolve with ease through this release, the natural next step in their climb to a world of sonic fantasy.
