Coming off the back of his most personal and sharpest album, The Slow Rush, Tame Impala is back for something new.
Whilst it comes off more like a strange April Fool’s joke than anything authentic, a new collaboration between Tame Impala and The Streets has been confirmed, and they’ve offered a sneak preview of what’s to come.
The Streets’ Mike Skinner has taken to Instagram to offer a snippet of an upcoming collaboration with none other than Tame Impala.
Posting on Instagram, Mike Skinner from The Streets has given us the first glimpse of a track with Kevin Parker aka Tame Impala. The video features Skinner calling Parker on a vintage Nokia mobile phone, and vice versa. It’s a game of phone tag, with The Streets calling from somewhere in the Alps, and Kevin Parker presumably from his LA home. Parker’s signature hazy vocals lament: “I was gonna call you back, I swear…”
The short clip concludes with Skinner attempting to ski down the mountain, and The Streets rapping: “You call and call my phone thinking that I’m doing nothing better / I’m just waiting for it to stop so I can get back into it.”
With the snippet being posted on April Fool’s Day, naturally, some people were sceptical. Since then, however, it’s been confirmed by NME that the upcoming song is a legitimate collaboration. This will be the first collaboration between the two artists.
The track is set to feature on a soon to be released mixtape from The Streets. In the meantime, Parker just released a new, immersive version of The Slow Rush:Â “for all you isolators out there”. Take a listen for yourself, right here
