The Strokes preview new song, announce new album coming this year

On New Year’s Eve, The Strokes played a set at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. The performance was notable for a few reasons, but none bigger than the band announcing a new album is coming in 2020.

The Strokes haven’t released an album since 2013’s excellent Comedown Machine, and their last release was an EP titled Future Present Past in 2016. It’s been some time between drinks for Casablanca and the guys, and fans are already freaking out at the prospect of new music.

2020 is off to a great start. Over New Year’s Eve, The Strokes debuted a brand new song live and announced that a new album is coming this year.

“Yeah, we’ve got a new album coming out soon,” frontman Julian Casablancas mentioned to the crowd during his band’s performance. “2020, here we come. The 2010s, whatever the fuck they’re called, we took ‘em off. And now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back.”

After that revelation, the band launched into Ode To The Mets, a new song. “Get out your handkerchiefs,” Casablancas said of the slower, sombre number. Whether it’s a track from the new album or not, we’re yet to find out.
