Tours – Crooked Colours

Crooked Colours are a three piece that make dark, brooding dance music, a little bit Presets, a little bit Flume // Chet Faker and a little bit Tron-era Daft Punk. Starting this Saturday (8th Feb), the Perth band will be embarking on a national tour following the release of their single Come Down.

The band’s press release brags that Come Down, the second single off their upcoming EP (to be released sometime this year), reached #3 on Hypem’s most popular charts, has over 90,000 Sound Cloud streams and was added to high rotation on Australia’s premiere radio station, Triple J. We at Happy know not to trust social buzz, and we certainly know that being added to Triple J’s high rotation is only sometimes a sign that you’re making good music (who even listens to Roots music anymore?), so the question is this: Why should you go see Crooked Colours?

Come Down is a straight up dope tune. It’s smooth, pleasant and classy – very unlike any comedown I’ve ever had. There’s a little electric guitar in there, a nice subsonic wobble, some choppy hats that buzz and hover around the song and a drop that is to die for  – what I’m trying to say is that there is a lot going on in their music. What this means is that seeing them live will be a show – more like seeing someone like ISLND and less like seeing a laptop artist like Flume. Put simply, there’s gonna be something on stage to look at while you get your boogie on.

Of course, we’re not so naive as to suggest that going to an electronic music performance is all about the music, there are many other factors (social, sexual and chemical) but being able to see a band do something on stage is a fun and exciting experience that I think all electronic music fans should enjoy. It gives an insight into not only how the disparate factors of a produced piece of electronic music come together to make a set and there’s a whole lot more energy as a whole. Still not convinced? Listen to Come Down and Moontan Nocturnal (which I think is heaps better) before checking out the tour dates below.
