Once you dive into the free-flowing psychedelia of Northern-NSW five-piece Vanilla Gorilla, you’ll never want to leave. The group ooze out an irresistible blend of sounds that feels at once otherworldly and grounded. It’s a strange sensation, listening to their music – but it’s one we guarantee you’ll quickly get hooked on.
On their latest EP Lucid, the band continue to build upon their rich, expansive sounds to deliver something truly hypnotic. If you haven’t already been paying attention to this band, it’s certainly time you started.
With the release of their latest EP Lucid, Northern-NSW five-piece Vanilla Gorilla have established themselves as masters of mind-bending psychedelia.
Over the course of the EP’s five-track duration, Vanilla Gorilla float through a hallucinatory concoction of indie-rock, blues, and psych to craft a sound uniquely their own. With blistering, spacey guitar lines, air-tight percussion, and woozy vocal hooks, Lucid will swirl around your head before landing in the depths of your bones. From here, you’ll be left with no choice but to groove.
The quintet – made up of Clay Dooker, Isaac Thompson, Jack Stanley, Dylan Trick, and Olli Harding – initially began performing with one another in 2012. Since then, they’ve maintained a consistent gigging schedule, spreading their mind-bending sounds to audiences all over the East Coast.
Lucid is the latest in a string of great releases from the band, following on from 2016’s Colour Flow. While Lucid stays true to the band’s cosmic noises, it still feels like a notable step forward. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what Vanilla Gorilla deliver next.
For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new EP above.
