The Slingers’ new single Ned Kelly is a classic slice of country-tinged Australiana

Melbourne quintet The Slingers have been working hard at making 2019 a year to count. Ned Kelly, the band’s first release of the year and the sixth since their inception back in 2017, marks the beginnings of a new era.

The band are working hard at carving a name for themselves outside of the pub-rock box they’ve been cast in to. They’re much more than just another bunch of guys playing guitars at the local dive bar. They’re a carefully curated blend of classic alternative Australiana and mid-western American country-folk, and their latest single proves it.

The Slingers with Spike Fuck

A unique blend of humble Australiana and Bob Dylan-esque lyrical country blues, The Slingers’ latest single Ned Kelly proves they’re not just another pub-rock band.

Ned Kelly evolved organically from a stripped-back acoustic song to a more rock n’ roll hit when the whole band joined in at a jam session one day. It was recorded DIY in The Slingers’ home studio and then mixed at Salt Studios in Brighton.

The song is a mature feat for a band that only started releasing music under two years ago. Aside from their new single, The Slingers have been working on releasing a duet for Melbourne heavyweight SPIKE FUCK.

With more emphasis on lyricism than their previous singles, Ned Kelly blends Bob Dylan-style country blues with the humble twang of Australian rock and roll. The original cover art was commissioned by talented Melbourne painter James Mulcahy. Check out the new single via Spotify below:

The Slingers are playing a show on January 27th at The Toff in Town in Melbourne. For more information, head to the Facebook event page.
