A new video for Leonard Cohen‘s tune Traveling Light featuring archived images and previously unreleased footage of the singer ruminating on his getting older has emerged.
The clip was a collaboration between Leonard Cohen’s son Adam and Sammy Slabbinck, who worked together with Cohen on his final record, 2016’s You Want It Darker.
Watch Leonard Cohen ruminate on feeling young and getting older in harrowing new video for Traveling Light, a cut from his final record, You Want It Darker.
The video opens with footage of Cohen sitting on a porch discussing feeling young and getting older at the same a time – a rather harrowing insight to the late singer’s health before his death.
“I feel stronger, but I’m actually a lot weaker,” says Cohen with a laugh. “I wake up in my bed…and I feel like ‘this is how I used to feel’…and then I swing my legs off my bed and try to stand up…”
The video was co-produced by Adam Cohen, who Slabbnick says provided “excellent guidance”. The rest of the clip is pure Cohen, weeping violins and gravelly baritone backed by monochrome imagery and his own poetic lyrics: a testament to the singer’s undying genius.
