Watch Rick & Morty’s Justin Roiland method act his way into drunken oblivion while recording lines

A few days ago, Adult Swim uploaded a video that gave an insight into the creation of Rick & Morty. In particular, it showed Justin Roiland (one half of the show’s creative force and also the voice of Rick) method acting his way into a pesky drunken state while recording lines for season three.

Rick and Morty drunk

Watch Justin Roiland from Rick & Morty method act his way into drunken oblivion while recording lines for season 3 in the studio.

“The character of Rick is a very high functioning alcoholic,” says Dan Harmon, Roiland’s co-creator. “In episode 304, we need to see him get especially drunk, so I encouraged Justin to method act.”

“The first thing I told [Roiland] was ‘Don’t have tequila’,” says associate producer Sydney Ryan.“And then of course he had tequila, and liquor just adds a whole new aspect to Justin.”

“I’ve been working on the show since season one and this is by far the least productive and messiest record day we’ve ever had.”

No wonder season three is taking so goddamn long.
