Zaliza marries art installation with live performance on ‘Paper Cave Session’

New York City-based artist Zaliza oozes out a kind of music that will immediately leave you feeling spellbound. It’s the kind of music that feels simultaneously grounded and explorative it’s rooted in folk and pop, but stretches into far more exciting and unexpected sonic territories.

Listening to her 2019 self-titled EP, a haunting brand of songcraft is immediately showcased. But now, with the release of her latest musical project, she has traveled with this sound into a completely new space. If you’re not already familiar with this artist, now is the perfect time to change that.

On her new project Paper Cave Session, New York City-based artist Zaliza delivers a haunting slice of art-pop brilliance.

Zaliza’s latest offering, The Paper Cave Session, sees the marriage of an art installation with live performance. The installation itself took 30 hours to create and provides a stunning visual backdrop for the NYC artist’s raw vocal delivery.

The session sees Zaliza re-work two tracks taken from her aforementioned self-titled EP, Phoenix and Spirit. While the EP versions of the tracks are lush and haunting, these new arrangements strip the songs back to their respective cores. Each song expands and contracts, pulling you along on an incredibly powerful sonic journey.

These are still relatively early days for Zaliza, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve seen and heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and watch the new video for Paper Cave Session above.
