We recently introduced Sydney psychaboogie band Taking Berlin and their awesome new double A-side Madchester/Carbon. While we gushed over their ‘surprisingly good’ tunes, we neglected to tell you that they were embarking on their very first tour down south with fellow Sydneysiders General Pants & The Privates to support Melbournites of both the downer and upper varieties.
On Feb the 7th (That’s TONIGHT suckas!), catch both bands support Kujo Kings – Melbourne’s premier feel-good musical collective. Listen to their tight-as-shit 2013 EP Rioting On Your Own – in particular Telemarketer Man and I dare you to keep a straight face – even if you’re stuck at work this arvo. These guys are the upper.
On Feb the 8th (Saturday), catch the same lineup support Hambone & The Prospectors, who despite the cartoony name, are the downer. An alt-rock solo project from I assume teenage hearthrob Lachlan Hensey (I mean who else has an alt-rock solo project?), Hambone & The Prospectors draw influence from the narrative style and crooning vocal style of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds circa that album about murdering people.
Listen to all four acts by following the links below, or just listen to Telemarketer Man in the soundcloud embed and be prepared to stop being a pretentious music connoisseur for a second and enjoy some ska music. It’s actually the best.
