Tour – Wave Racer

Embarking on his first ever (inter)national tour, Astral People and Future Classic present a pioneer of Sydney’s contemporary dance music scene, Wave Racer. The groovetastic beatsmith will be hitting up clubs and small venues across the country this February and March, including a date in Auckland at The Imperial. To mark this momentous event for the kid, he’s releasing a new single Streamers tomorrow, and it’s a doozy.

Streamers is up for streaming (ha!) on SoundCloud today and is embedded below. The song is classic Wave Racer, shuffled one two beats with filtered synth sounds that drip in vivid chemical trails rather than swoosh or drop and a healthy dose of weird noises over the top. Seriously, the phone rang in the office while I was listening to it for the first time and I thought it was part of the song. Cool story, I know.

While the history books might someday see Sydney’s brand of electronic exports as a reactionary movement against the Melbourne Bounce, the lighter, shuffled beats that keep Sydney dancing until the early hours rose more or less simultaneously with it’s southern counterpart. Harbourside artists influenced by 8-bit soundtracks and the vivid pixels of old Atari systems like Cosmo’s MidnightJaysWays, Yahtzel and of course Wave Racer are the staple of what makes Sydney’s electronic music unique, making Wave Racer’s tour one that everyone should make their way down to.
