For all you backwards cap wearing gangsta’s who don’t know what to do after stomping your feet like a Brontosaurus, Australia’s very own Tkay Maidza has got you covered – following up with her new single U-Huh which was recently debuted on Triple J Breakfast.
Tkay Maidza is a girl you wouldn’t want to mess with. She’s got the swag, the rap, the beats.
The tune has one cool groove, an electric beat, and although not as blaring as Brontosaurus, it still delivers without a doubt. Produced by Elk, the song is supposedly a “shout out to the people who pretend to like you” – shooting a makeshift gun with your hands. The words “chity-bang-bang” will be stuck in your head in no time.
I had the pleasure of catching her set at this year’s Splendour in the Grass – bringing her electric presence, bouncy groove and banging sounds made for a radical party that left all feathers ruffled on native-American headdresses worn by basic festival bitches.
The ground shook as festival hipsters stomped their feet in unison, firing up the dance floor like it was hot coals. Following this she made a cameo in Nina Las Vegas’s set which went off! Tkay has completed her festival experience with this happy-snap with Childish Gambino as she says “I’m pretty much done” – not sure how many other 18 year olds can say the same thing.
This is a wrecking ball of success that’s in full swing, previously toured with Nina Las Vegas, getting a lot of support from Triple J, coming off of Splendour and also playing at Listen Out. Beloved by Australians and pretty much the best thing to come out of Adelaide since they managed to settle without convicts, we’re excited to see what’s in the works to come.
