It’s been an incredible year of live music at Newtown’s Bank Hotel. From their ongoing Record Fair Live and Cobra Club gigs to surprise Queens of the Stone Age DJ sets, they’ve spent 2018 making their music rooms exciting and accessible to all.
Fittingly, they’re ready to end the year with a bang. If you’re stuck in Sydney this Christmas don’t fret, we’ve got you sorted with these five artists checking into the Bank.
Inner West local looking for a few December gigs? Check out what’s on at the Bank Hotel, one of Newtown’s best live music haunts.
Ivey – Saturday 8 December
Nice and early in the December lineup comes Ivey, a Gold Coast five-piece making supremely bright indie pop with no shortage of style. October 2018 saw them drop the Gorgeous EP – that one’s in the name.
The release has had some serious gusto on the home front, and was even picked up by rad French label Kitsuné for a re-release. RSVP to their show here.
Jess Locke – Saturday 15 December
My Body Is An Ecosystem has been one of our favourite songs of the year, we’ll never get sick of hearing it. The Melbourne-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/legend was recently in Sydney supporting Destroyer, and if you caught that set you’ll know she isn’t to be missed.

Rackett EP Launch – Tuesday 18 December
We’ve been fans of RACKETT for ages. After scoring a winners’ spot in our Needle In The Hay vinyl competition, we asked them to headline a show at Oxford Art Factory and they absolutely ripped it. They’re one of a kind.
RACKETT will be launching their new EP I Please Myself at this show. It’s a Cobra Club special, meaning free entry. Get some.
Bilby Album Launch – Thursday 20 December
Bilby is a lovely boy who makes even lovelier music, and very recently he gifted the world his delightful album Shade. After you’ve given that a spin, we reckon you’ll be drawn to this show like moth to a flame.
RSVP to Bilby’s Shade album launch right here.
White Blanks – Saturday 22 December
Noisy surf boys White Blanks have dropped two EPs this year, and they’re both absolute scorchers. The more recent effort is Sometimes It Takes a While… to Figure It Out, booked end-to-end with salty riffs and coastal steeze.
They’re clocking in to the Bank right before Christmas, so it’s a good place to knock yourself out for your time off. Grab all the details here.
