The team behind Brisbane Festival have today announced the headline act for perhaps their biggest festival to date.
Lucky punters will be treated to a performance by the prodigious Jacob Collier, who is returning to Australian shores after a string of sell-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne last year.
Two-time Grammy Award-winning composer Jacob Collier is set to return to Australia this September as the headline act for the annual Brisbane Festival.
At the age of 24, UK-based Collier has already achieved more in his short career than most celebrated musicians will have achieved in their lives. Not only was he the recipient of not one, but two Grammy awards, he’s collaborated with compositional big-wigs Hans Zimmer and Herbie Hancock, he’s performed a viral TED Talk, he played with Pharell Williams at Coachella in 2017 and he composed the soundtrack for Dreamworks’ animated film Boss Baby.
His Australian and New Zealand shows will see the composer incorporate a band of multi-instrumentalists playing over 30 acoustic and electronic instruments. The show will also be accompanied by heavily synchronised visuals to create a new and unique experience for concertgoers.
Every September, Brisbane Festival brings the city to life with culture. Spectators travel from Australia and overseas to witness some of the best dance, music, theatre, circus and opera acts of the year. Last year’s program saw the likes of Tkay Maidza, Destroyer, Gareth Liddiard and Unknown Mortal Orchestra perform at venues citywide.
Jacob Collier is set to play a series of shows in the lead-up to his Brisbane Festival performance, with two gigs at Melbourne’s Recital Centre lined up, as well as a Sydney Opera House performance proceeding his Brisbane show. Check out his tour dates below.
