After a six year hiatus, My Chemical Romance have announced their reunion

The Black Parade is Back! That is, My Chemical Romance are reuniting for the first time since their 2013 break-up.

The aptly timed announcement was made yesterday, on Halloween, via the band’s socials. The black and white picture read “RETURN” and was simply captioned “Like Phantoms Forever”. And much like bright lights that cast a shadow, this December 20th, the military jacket donning, eye-liner wearing pop-punk legends will be playing a one-off show at the Shrine Expo Hall in LA.

For the first time since announcing their breakup in 2013, pop-punk/emo legends My Chemical Romance have announced their reunion!

Rising to fame in the early 2000’s, the release of their third album, The Black Parade, solidified them as catalysts of a new musical movement. They released a 10th-anniversary edition of the record  in 2016, including mammoth tracks Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers, and Mama.

MCR disbanded in 2012, with their Famous Last Words from frontman Gerard Way in a long letter to fans titled A Vigil, On Birds and Glass. His heartfelt goodbye essay read, “My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band- it is an idea.”

Way continued, “A perfect machine, beautiful, yet self aware of it’s system. Under directive to terminate before it becomes compromised. To protect the idea- at all costs… No compromise. No surrender. No fucking shit. To me that’s rock and roll. And I believe in rock and roll.”

Since then, Way has released a solo album, Hesitant Alien, and he’s created a graphic novel series called The Umbrella Academy that has been picked up by Netflix.

Tickets for the show go on sale November 1st, US EST time. And following the internet’s influx of emo memes and running mascara, it’s expected to sell out. Carry on.
