PREMIERE: Cactus deliver a wall of psychedelic sound on ‘Crescent Moon’

Cactus make music without any borders. In an incredibly short amount of time, the Gold Coast-based outfit have developed a brand of music that allows different sounds meld fluidly into one another, creating a whirlwind of lush sonic goodness.

With the release of their new single Crescent Moon, the band continue to establish their penchant for crafting woozy and addictive genre-bending gems of sound. If you’re not already listening to this group, we strongly recommend you change that.

On their new single Crescent Moon, Gold Coast-based outfit Cactus deliver a woozy and sprawling slice of genre-bending brilliance.

Throughout the new single, Cactus—made up of Rory Williams, Rhys Slater, Mitch Lancaster, and Brycson Howell—glide through a hypnotic blend of psychedelia, indie-rock, blues, and reggae to deliver something uniquely their own. With layers of hallucinatory guitars, far-reaching vocal melodies, and air-tight percussion, Crescent Moon is a truly sprawling and captivating soundscape.

Over the course of the track’s four-and-a-half-minute run-time, the band pull in myriad sonic territories—they never sit in one place for too long. This, however, is the track’s most endearing quality. One moment you’ll be locked into an irresistible psychedelic groove, and the next you’ll be completely submerged in an ocean of sound.

Crescent Moon is the latest in a string of consistently great releases from this Gold Coast band, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.

In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to the new track above.
