John Frusciante rejoins the Red Hot Chili Peppers

What a day to be a Chili’s fan. Legendary guitarist John Frusciante is rejoining the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Having left the Californian outfit back in 2009, it looks like the Chili Peppers classic lineup is back together.

After 10 years away from the band, John Frusciante, who appeared on classic albums Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Californication, is set to return.

In a recent Instagram post, the band announced the departure of current guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. “Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us.”

With Klinghoffer’s departure, the Chili’s broke the massive news by adding, “We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.” Having last appeared on the huge double album Stadium Arcadium back in 2006, it looks as though there are some huge things in store for fans of one of the all-time greatest bands.

This will be Frusciante’s third stint with the band. Having left after the 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magic due to the rigour’s of enormous success, the guitarist would rejoin the band for another stint of albums between 1999 and 2009. Klinghoffer’s tenure with the band lasted just two albums with the 2011 album I’m With You and the 2016 release of The Getaway.

From a writer who grew up on the perfectionist riffs of Frusciante, this news could not be more exciting. With some of his classic songs including but not limited to Under the Bridge, Californication, Scar Tissue, Can’t Stop, Dani California and Snow (Hey Oh), we can only hope for more classic tunes from the funkiest monks to ever come out of California.

Frusciante’s reunion follows the recent release of Flea’s autobiography, Acid For the Children. Having already locked in dates for Alabama’s Hangout Festival and Boston Calling Fest, 2020 looks to be a huge year for the band.
