Is Balenciaga a part of a mass exodus from Twitter?

Balenciaga follows on the heels of Dyson, General Motors, and Gigi Hadid, who have all jumped what seems to be the sinking boat that is Twitter.

With Musk at the helm and his proclamations of giving the platform free speech, the entertainment industry is jumping ship, among them, the high-end fashion label Balenciaga.

Two days after Musk closed his $44 billion deal to purchase the service, “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes and others have also quit Twitter.  “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,” Rhimes tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

The list of the departed is getting longer by the day, with R&B singer Toni Braxton sharing: “I’m shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech’ I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of ‘free speech’ is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC,”

Whoopi Goldberg holds a similar view, announcing on Monday that she is “done with Twitter” for the time being.“I’m going to get out, and if it settles down and I feel more comfortable maybe I’ll come back,”

Gigi Hadid deactivated her Twitter account on Friday and explained her decision in a post on Instagram, sharing that the platform was “becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry. I can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, not a social platform that will do more good than harm,”

Brian Koppelman, a co-creator of the tv show “Billions” tweeted: “Y’all’s, for real, come find me over on Instagram and the tok. Gonna really try to take a breather from here for a minute or a month come deal close time.”

Erik Larsen, a comic book creator and artist best known for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” tweeted that “the day Elon Musk buys Twitter is the day I delete my account and leave Twitter.”

Téa Leoni closed her account on Saturday, “Hi everyone. I’m coming off Twitter today—let’s see where we are when the dust settles. Today the dust has revealed too much hate, too much in the wrong direction. Love, kindness, and possibilities for all of you.”

David Simon writer of ‘The Wire’  simply said “Fuck Elon Musk.”
