Angus & Julia Stone – Heart Beats Slow

The moment we have all been waiting for has finally come – everybody’s favourite siblings of the music world have taken a break from their respective solo careers to work together on a new album, with many thanks to super-producer Rick Rubin.

Angus & Julia Stone premiered their new single, Heart Beats Slow on Triple J just last Tuesday and the response so far has been wild. With a self-titled album due for release on the 1st of August, Heart Beats Slow is the fourth track on the self-titled Angus & Julia Stone, and marks the duo’s first collaboration in almost four years.

Spoiler Alert: Best looking siblings ever, Angus & Julia Stone are back with a new look and new-ish sound. Hear the first of it here, with Heart Beats Slow

Following the enormous response from the pair’s 2010 album Down The Way, both Angus and Julia have been writing and performing solo songs as musicians in their own right. Although each have been successful in their solo endeavors, there is something so inexplicably alluring about their boy-girl harmonies that continues to leave pretty much everyone wanting more.

Heart Beats Slow is one of those very rare tracks that has the ability to win you over within the first 5 or so seconds. Cue guitars, drums, bass and add in Julia’s youthful vocals with the rawness of Angus’, and you have yourself a formula for musical bliss. With a comparatively faster tempo to Angus & Julia Stone’s earlier music, Heart Beats Slow is both upbeat and captivating.

Although the alternative/folk duo have always shared vocals in their music, their new album is the first in which they have shared song-writing duties on individual tracks. For the Stones, Heart Beats Slow indeed marks a new era of collaboration.

For those of you lucky enough to have scored yourself tickets to Splendour, Angus & Julia Stone will be performing on Friday the 25th of July alongside Childish Gambino, Ball Park Music, and The Kite String Triangle. For those of you who haven’t seen such luck – you better start praying to the music gods for some sneaky sideshows, and counting your lucky stars if your prayers are answered.
