AI might make music, but it can’t make memories
Everyone remembers when Frank Ocean did one of his rare performances for Blonde and the fans got an unexpected cameo.
During Frank’s 2017 FYF Fest headline show, Brad Pitt stood on stage acting out an emotional phone call while ‘Close To You’ made everyone else weep for real.
The surprise collab was made after Pitt shared in an interview earlier that year that Blonde helped him get through his divorce.
That moment on stage stood as one of the coolest pop culture moments to take place in the live music forum.
So it should be no surprise that Pitt understands the value of live music, but recently he got some unexpected but well needed reassurance.
The most recent fear to hit the music industry is the rise of AI music, which has taken an unsettling hold on a lot of Generation X.
In an interview with Esquire, Pitt shared that he too has been gripped by the powers of AI.
“I heard an AI song the other day that was pretty damn good”
In regard to this, the star shared that a concert in Paris managed to reaffirm that live music will always be far more superior than AI tracks.
The show was none other than Flea’s jazz band, which featured Thom Yorke alongside the Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s bassist as the whole live collective played a cover of Marvin Gaye.
“Ohhh, it was off the charts, full of joy…AI can’t do that”
When further reflecting on the AI track, Pitt shared that “it had a repetitive nature to it. It’s not going to be the same as hearing her voice—a woman’s voice, a person’s voice”.
AI might be able to replicate a voice, build a catchy hook and spit out a convincing track, but it can’t recreate the feeling of being in a room with thousands of people experiencing the same thing at the same time.
