One of Western Australia’s most exciting new artists Carla Geneve has announced she has signed with Dot Dash Recordings.
Coinciding with this, the singer-songwriter also announced she will be touring the country in March, following the release of her new single 2001. The tour kicks off at Farmer and the Owl Festival in Woolongong on March 2nd and continues until the 31st of March.
Singer-songwriter Carla Geneve has signed to Dot Dash Recordings and announced an Australian tour following the release of her raw and nostalgic new single 2001.
After making an entrance into the music scene in 2018 with her hit song Greg’s Discount Chemist, 19 year-old Geneve has gone from strength to strength. With her captivating performance at BIGSOUND 2018, winning the triple j Unearthed Laneway 2019 competition as well as opening for icons Cat Power and Jen Cloher , Geneve is quickly becoming one of Australia’s best new alternative artists.
Her new single 2001 takes its name from Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey. It’s melancholic and uplifting all at once, with heartfelt and vulnerable storytelling. The down-beat tempo and soft guitar elements create a nostalgic aura, a poignant reminder of fleeting time and the process of growing up.
In a press release, Carla talked about the meaning behind the song, saying:
“2001 is about escapism through old movies and books that I loved as a kid. Those paired with songwriting serve as the best form of catharsis for me.”
