Climate activists commit “absurd acts” on Andy Warhol artwork

Protesters from a climate change group have vandalised Andy Warhol’s notable BMW M1 Art Car, while it was on display at a museum in Italy.

Climate change activists belonging to the group ‘Last Generation’ (Ultima Generazione) performed “absurd acts” on Andy Warhol’s legendary BMW M1 Art Car on Friday (November 18), while it was up for display at a museum in Milan, Italy.

As reported by Italian news outlet, Ansa, the protesters involved were seen hurling several kilograms of flour at Warhol’s work, gluing themselves to the iconic vehicle, and throwing balloons filled with paint on the ground. All the while, they shouted about the importance of addressing the global climate crisis.

Last Generation (Ultima Generazione) is a self-professed “Italian civil disobedience campaign.” Their website states the following: We carry out nonviolent civil disobedience actions to demand urgent and concrete actions against the ecoclimate collapse.”

US pop icon, Andy Warhol painted the iconic BMW M1 Art Car in 1979. The recent attack on his piece is one of many in a string of protests that have taken place in art museums over the last few months.
