Native to Sydney, powerful indie rock four-piece CREO have just unveiled their debut EP Subtitles For X, Y, Z, a fresh new music video and a string of tour dates to accompany their musical exploration of love, lust and past experiences.
CREO’s Subtitles for X, Y, Z is an EP one can immediately enjoy without repetition, touching on desperation, self-approval, career pressures, growing up and being lost in life.
Influenced by the likes of Bloc Party, Smashing Pumpkins, Brand New and Silversun Pickups, Subtitles For X, Y, Z is a five-track anthemic masterpiece heavy with emotion, powerful vocals and intricate guitar melodies.
Opening with track Behind The Beat, the EP welcomes listeners with a steady rhythm, soft vocals and warm tones which insinuate something bigger is about to come. Confirming the intro was a slow build up for a powerful chorus ahead, Haman’s vocals erupt into a whirlwind of emotion, heralded by melodic guitar and ambient synths.
Give Me Yours sits as the second track on the record, instantly inviting listeners in with an upbeat tempo, fast-paced beats and energetic lyrics. Title track Subtitles for X, Y, Z opens much like the first, with an ambient tease of slow-building synths before exploding into warm and steady drum bashes, powerful, emotionally heavy vocals and some seriously melded guitar fuzz.
The last two tracks June and Too Many Thousand & 16 travel down similar avenues to the songs before them, based around slow openings and dramatic climaxes. With each track on record bouncing off the other, the EP encourages listeners to reflect back on life, embrace the present and fall head over heels in love.
Subtitles for X, Y, Z is a diverse and compelling record, packed with powerful musical elements and dramatic vocals. The strong rhythmic sections mean this record is not for the light-hearted, but we’re loving every second of heaviness it has to offer.
