Brissie legends Cub Sport take home the inaugural ARIA Emerging Artist Scholarship

Beloved indie pop darlings Cub Sport have been awarded the first ever ARIA Emerging Artist Scholarship. The prize, in partnership with Virgin Australia, will grant the band travel support for both the domestic and international legs of their 2018 world tour.

With the aim of helping emerging artists on the next step in their career, the scholarship was open to any Aussie artist that appeared in the ARIA Album or Singles Charts during 2017 that had not been nominated for an ARIA Award.

For the entirely independent and self-funded Cub Sport, last year marked the success of their second album BATS which peaked at #14 on the ARIA Australian Artist Album Chart.

“The costs associated with touring both domestically and internationally are significant and can be the limiting factor in many independent bands’ careers,” said Sam from Cub Sport.

“This travel support will play a direct and pivotal role in allowing us to continue pursuing our global vision by returning to international markets to play shows, connect with fans as well as expanding our creative and professional network.”

You’ll be able to catch Cub Sport when they support Vance Joy on his September arena tour. Tickets are on sale now – for more information, head over here.
