Darts give us the second taste of their highly anticipated debut album with Aeroplane

Melbourne grunge kids Darts have given us the second single for their upcoming debut with the brooding Aeroplane, and man, is this album gonna be a ripper.

The track follows on from the deliciously abrasive lead single Westward Bound, which is still fresh in all our ears and still being adored everywhere we look. Aeroplane sees the 5-piece taking an even darker route this time around. It’s all about the despondent guitars and anxious husk of co-vocalist Ally Campbell-Smith. The track illuminates Darts’ ability to swoon as well as sear. It’s oddly pretty in a cutting kind of way. Synths twinkle above the crunchy Sonic Youth guitars as Campbell-Smith croons about the past.

Speaking of the track she laments: “When we were kids, the relationships we formed were not limited by a common ground we use as adults. You knew exactly where you stood, and that allowed for some of the best friendships of your life to form. This song is about that.” There is definite tone of nostalgia throughout Aeroplane that is only perpetuated by Darts’ assured 90s influence.
