Don’t have enough harmonica in your life? Rest easy, those sexy motherfuckers from Strangerous Collective just can’t seem to help but oblige. They only dropped their funk fuelled debut album last week, and now the boys are unleashing upon the world a brand new track which you can now listen to exclusively thanks to your friends here at Happy.
Did someone say a SUPER SEXCLUSIVE TRACK from none other than Sydney’s Strangerous Collective? Yeah, we did. Listen to it here on Happy!
Perhaps ‘unleashed’ isn’t the right word to describe this new track. What I’ve Become is actually quite a sombre affair, as the Sydney funk trio have slowed things down to deliver quite a nuanced and intimate song.
For those familiar with the band you wouldn’t be blamed if you didn’t recognise this as a Strangerous Collective song at first. Against a backdrop of uncharacteristically light drums and gentle guitars, frontman Daniel Imbert croons his way into your soul. He is aptly supported by a harmonica, which quite frankly is an underutilized instrument these days.
That mouth organ adds a whole new dimension to the song and manages to set What I’ve Become apart from the Strangerous Collective you thought you knew. The song is certainly somber enough to set it apart from many other Strangerous Collective songs, but that harmonica man, it lifts the song to a whole new level. The proceedings are given a much more blues vibe from what we’ve heard before, and you’d be damned to say that the boys don’t know how to pull it off like the pros they are.
With all the new music they’ve been putting out chances are you’ll be able to catch Strangerous Collective at a nearby quality live music venue, so check out their Facebook page for touring updates.
We won’t try hide the fact that we loved their self-titled EP, so lets just say that even though this is a much more mellow side of Strangerous Collective than we’re used to seeing, What I’ve Become sits nicely amongst their modest back catalogue.
